The college sports marketing landscape experienced a major shift when the NCAA introduced an NIL policy change. However, The NCAA NIL rules do not override state, college university or conference-specific NIL rules. This means the student-athletes need to comply with NIL rules by state and confirm any school or conference-specific rules with their athletic departments. The college student-athletes competing in states without an NIL law had the freedom to participate in NIL however they see fit, as long as they don't violate pay-for-play or receive financial incentives to sign with or remain in a program.
